Architect

CROSLAND DOAK DESIGN (CDD) is a multi-discipline design firm based in Whistler, BC. Crosland Doak, the principal, has degrees in both Architecture and Landscape Architect and is a Registered Landscape Architect who has practiced throughout Western Canada and the Tropical Pacific. The firms work ranges from land use planning to building design. For CDD the inspiration for a design comes from the site and its natural and social context.

When CDD started working on the Ridge at Pemberton, the task was to develop a cohesive hillside neighborhood that respected the moderately sloped forested hillside and took advantage of the spectacular views of Mount Currie and the Pemberton Valley below. Slope, view and solar aspect analysis played a significant role in the layout of the lots. A series of lanes and cul-de-sacs defined enclaves within the neighborhood for a cluster of homes. A neighborhood commons (parkette) creates a focal piece for the whole neighborhood to congregate and socialize. A series of trails and buffer corridors through and around the site ensure that existing trails remain continuous and provide access to a network of public hiking and biking trails beyond. The Ivey Creek drainage way was removed from the private lot development to ensure it remains a viable riparian ecosystem. CDD envisions a blend of contemporary and traditional architecture that respects the sites natural setting and the Valley’s agricultural history, creating a vibrant and healthy neighborhood.
